Teeth Whitening

Within our dental office in Winter Park, we offer teeth whitening products which are exclusive to dental professionals. Over-the-counter products work for some, and we are not against using them safely. However, to achieve the level of results and speed of results that patients are looking for, we often utilize products that are typically 3 to 4 times stronger than standard "over-the-counter" whitening products.

All patients interested in teeth whitening require a standard dental examination from Dr. Lina Yu before starting our whitening products or services. Not only does this minimize risk to you, but the discussion with our staff or the doctor will help you better decide the best option for your situation.

We have three types of whitening treatment available for our patients:

Express Whitening Kit

Express Whitening Kit – easiest to try and available immediately, yet still 3 times stronger than traditional “over the counter” products

  • 4 Sessions of at-home whitening

  • Pre-made trays are “one size fits all."

  • Pre-filled with 15% strength whitening gel, easy to use

  • Available immediately after a standard dental checkup

In-Office Whitening Service

  • Whitening service administered by Dr. Yu and the staff

  • 2 to 3 sessions (during the same appointment) of our fastest whitening products, which are a 40% strength whitening gel

  • Typically performed within a single 2-hour appointment

  • An optional add-on for sensitivity treatment is available

Custom Whitening Kit

  • Custom-designed (3D printed) whitening trays

Frequently Asked Questions about Teeth Whitening:

Is whitening safe for my teeth?

To answer this question, not only in general but also for the specific whitening services we provide in Winter Park – all our teeth whitening consultations require the patient to have a comprehensive dental exam with Dr. Lina Yu.

For a typical patient with no outstanding dental work, our teeth whitening products and services are very safe for patient use. The concerns typically arise for patients who have gum disease, exposed roots, cavities, or broken teeth. Additionally, the whitening products we use are gluten-free, vegan, animal by-product free, and kosher-certified.

Will I have sensitivity when whitening my teeth?

Sensitivity after and during teeth whitening can be quite common. However, it is usually very mild 'zings' felt and able to be managed by the patient. If you experience sensitivity, it is not a cause for worry – there isn't any harm to the tooth from whitening, and it is temporary. Some patients do experience more sensitivity than others which can be brought on by the strength of the whitening product or even the flavor (if any) of the products.

For our teeth whitening services in Winter Park, we do offer optional desensitizing gel trays, which can be worn before and after a whitening treatment to help prevent some sensitivity. Another common trick is to utilize a sensitive toothpaste before and after the treatment.

Do you use UV light/laser to whiten my teeth?

Our professional dental products and services do not require the use or aid of any lights or lasers to safely whiten your teeth. Other services may state that the use of the light activates the ingredients or accelerates the teeth whitening – however, our dental office teeth whitening is both safe and effective without the need or the risk of a high-powered light.

Can I whiten my teeth if I have veneers, crowns, or fillings?

While teeth whitening products can not whiten dental restorations like veneers, crowns, or fillings – we can provide a cosmetic dentistry consultation to provide the best set of options to achieve a brighter smile. Often, this may be teeth whitening prior to dental treatment to fix cavities, chipped teeth, or replacements of old fillings – in order to have your restorations match with your whiter teeth. Additionally, some patients with veneers, crowns, or other dental work may be looking to whiten their natural teeth, which had started to darken with time, to match the restorations for an evenly white smile.

Dr. Lina Yu specializes in complex or multi-treatment cosmetic dentistry to help you achieve the smile you are looking for. For some cases, this may mean more than traditional whitening products and require internal or “endo” whitening, cosmetic fillings/bonding, veneers, and/or crowns.
